colour me wonder

colour me black, colour me white…
…never thought colours would be so right.

somehow, i have always thought of myself as the fella who would appreciate black and white over colour.

it is me after all. i love the ancient black and white movies. a year ago, one of the best films of the year for me was ‘good night and good luck‘. ‘casablanca’, ‘12 angry men’, ‘chalti ka naam gaadi’… these are movies that can never be recreated in colour for me; the shadow is a character all on its own.

recently, when i started populating my flickr album, a simple observation kept coming back to me.

colour, of all things, was one of the focal points of my photos.

in every one of my photos, it was the sheer colour that made me frame that particular shot. even when editing them, i found that the colour is what attracted me to the photo the most. i have a certain amount of love for depth of field (DOF), but the one theme that hit me the most from the point of view of analyzing my own photography was the colour content.

whether it was noticing the variation in the newspaper boxes, or just the leaves in the yard next to my house; or maybe even just the confetti littering the streets; colours had cried out for my attention. i wanted to capture the small things that we miss everyday, and more lovingly, i wanted the colours that we miss on a daily basis to be the highlight.

i would never have thought it. sometimes, we surprise ourselves without even knowing it.

Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways.” – Oscar Wilde

Where do we go, nobody knows
I’ve gotta say I’m on my way down
God give me style and give me grace
God put a smile upon my face

sitting there with chris martin crooning, the piano chords striking something deep, deep within. all at once, the symphony comes together; drums, guitar, bass, keyboard… and the chorus resonates. involuntarily, the foot starts tapping the beat.

Where do I go to fall from grace
God put a smile upon your face, yeah

Now when you work it out I’m worse than you
Yeah when you work it out, I want it too…

you try to listen harder; the foot taps faster, faster…the fingers join in. the rhythm builds within you, you wish you could actually play the guitar – follow the beat, follow the tune, follow the song. you also know no instrument would ever produce that kind of music coming from you. you sit back; your hands moving in unison to meaningless strumming, nonsense chords…the only thing that makes any sense is the beat, the rhythm, the song.

the music.

Now when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine…
It’s as good as mine
As good as mine…

you wonder why, you wonder if ever, you wonder why you wonder… the line starts hammering itself into your head, and a voice joins in before you realise it.
you are singing.
you open your mouth to mouth the words… the legs still tapping the beat that you hear… the hands strumming the song the way only you can… the head jams to a song that you live, you resonate with, you change to drum roll with nary a pause, then the keyboard, the hands moving in configurations that are yours; and yours alone. the drums, the keyboard, the bass, the guitar, the voice…

the song.

God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face…

its been a while

since i’ve been tagged.

or posted, for that matter…

… From here. I have to list one fact related to my life for every letter of my middle name. I also have to mention the following rules:
a) The rules must be mentioned in the beginning of the tag.
b) You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
c) At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

now, i’m in a dilemma. i could use the name that comes the middle of my full name; but it is not my actual “middle” name. we weirdos don’t have the concept of surnames and middle names and end names and over-the-top names. we have names. period.
if i were to use a random name, i might as well use random letters. or, i could be snarky and have a superhero middle name, but that is painful.
and one person for every letter of my middle name ? now, that is scary. come to think of it, even finding six people who read my blog is scary.
pet names ? i have more than a few. and that is not including insults.

confusion, confusion.

i’ll do the more popular version of the tag, and choose a name from amongst my three; and use that. i won’t tag anyone… i will encourage people to steal it. the crime will have its own punishment.

i shall hence choose my own name, and be done with it.

Ssilly. from concepts of writing only in lower-case, to actually understanding the concepts of comic-book universes, its always been the silly things that fascinate me the most. i can act pretty silly at times too, ensuring that seriousness is not a crime i am accused of.
Aargumentative. given a chance, and an acceptable person, i’m willing to argue about everything under the sun.
Ttales. whether writing them, reading them, or watching them; i can’t live without ‘em.
Iirritating. i find a number of things so, especially when burdened with a cold. when i don’t find them, i get so. and thats not good for anyone around me.
Ssang-froid. i believe in maintaining it to extreme levels; and will go as far as to not react to anything. i will actually react slowly to things to ensure that what analysis i believe in (way too much) is done.
Hhandsomeness. one of the few things i’ve never associated with myself, and more interestingly, neither has anyone else ;)

there, it is done. do it if you dare, chicken.

did you know..

there is but a finite amount of writing possible in a day. and when one is way, way behind on a novel… things like blogs suffer.

i just need an excuse to do other things, really. gimme a whack on the head.

brilliantly jobless

this is fricking AWESOME :)

honda ad, go figure.

hal9000 took over..

the digital imaging world.

not just the last supper (16 billion pixels), but so many more in resolutions (8.6 gigapixels ?!) barely comprehensible.
